I am Alberto De Virgiliis, an architect registered with the Order of Architects of Chieti.
For four years I have worked inside studios on projects ranging from retail interiors to urban scale, following them from the first concept through detailed design and, where the project got that far, on site.
I work in BIM and in computational modelling, and I treat both as scaffolding: tools that let a team exchange, interpret and decide together.
Why 1:1?

I named this site after the scale at which every project is finally judged. Whatever the drawings say, the answer arrives at full size, in the material, in the joint, in the way people move through a room.
That is also where I learn most. What comes back from a project on site reshapes how I think about the next one, and that thinking makes the next one better.
How I work
How I work
Projects start from listening: to the people who will use the space, to the client, to the place and to what it already contains. Listening is where a project emerges from, and it is what keeps a working relationship going long after delivery. Inside a team it means the same thing, reading the intentions of the people around me and keeping the process governable while the work is happening.

I work from the first questions about a brief through concept and design development, at the scale of an interior as much as of a masterplan.
Each project is an attempt to find the best version that can actually be built, with what is there and within the constraints that exist.

Drawing sets, BIM models, regulatory documents, coordination with structural and services engineers.
I have worked on existing and listed buildings, and I have been on site to see the work through, including production drawings developed directly with contractors and manufacturers.
Tools and methods
Tools and methods
Revit and ArchiCAD for BIM, Rhinoceros and Grasshopper for computational modelling, which I introduced into a previous studio's workflow to parametrise BIM models.
Tools are scaffolding: they should open exchange and interpretation inside a team, and never impose a bias on the design.

I obtained a Master's degree with honours in 2022 and a professional qualification with registration with the Order of Architects in 2024.
I have worked continuously since then.
English is my working language for projects delivered in Italy and abroad, and I am currently studying Dutch.
Alongside my design work, I have taught as a tutor in a university design studio.
I have also written and curated with WOO_mezzometroquadro, a cultural association through which I have published interviews with architects and held a research fellowship.
